1sCOPE
This Standard specifies graphical symbols for compo-ncnts and dcviccs uscd in mcasurcmcnt and controlsystems, represented in diagrams.
For the fuindamental rules of creation and applicationof graphical symbols in diagrams, see ASME Y14.40.0.For an overview of the ASME Y14.40 series, informa-tion on the creation and use of registration numbers foridentifying graphical symbols used in diagrams, rulesfor the prescntation and application of thesc symbols, and examples of their use and application, see ASMEY14.40.1.

3TERMS AND DEFINITIONS
For the purposes of this Standard, the following termsand definitions apply.
3.1
sensor: primary eienent of a measuring chain that con-verts the input variable into a signal suilable for mea-surement.
3.2
signal converter: device that changes a signal into a differ-eni signal, the physical nature of the output being thesame as that of the input.
3.3
measuring transducer transmitter: device that acceptsinfornaiion in the form of a physical or chertical vari-able and converts it to an output variable of the sameor another nature, according to a definitc law.
3.4
delector: device that accepts information in the form ofa physical or chemical variable and transmits a binarysignal at a specified condition,cf. measuring transducer(3.3).
3.5
inudicalor: device that shows the presence or absence ofa phenomenon such as pressure, flow, and position orstate, but which does not measure it.
